A Day in the Life: Administrative Medical Assistant

Administrative Medical Assistants are considered the “backbone” of the office because they are usually the main line of communication between the front and back offices.

Doctor’s Offices

Common responsibilities include:

  • Scheduling appointments
  • Maintaining records
  • Filing insurance claims
  • Billing/recording transactions
  • Accounting

Hospitals

Common responsibilities include:

  • Checking in patients
  • Compiling records and charts
  • Transferring lab records
  • Processing insurance payments

Specialty Offices

Common responsibilities include:

  • Making appointments
  • Handling insurance claims
  • Taking health claims
  • Educating patients
